CHIROPRACTIC:
Wellness
starts with the spinal column
By
Dr. Maddalena Galliani
Why
does treatment of the spinal column improve the immune defense
system?
By
adjusting the spinal column a chiropractor also treats the
nervous system and the body's natural defense mechanisms,
thus improving overall health. The spinal column is composed
of 24 vertebrae, through which spinal nerves pass, a network
of nerves that extends to all parts of the body, including
muscles, bones, glands and organs. In the event of sublaxation
(movement of the vertebrae) the nerves are crushed and in
terms of the nervous system, involved organs do not function
as they did before.
When the vertebrae are correctly aligned again, there is
no nerve interference and electrical impulses from the brain
can travel freely, reaching the organs through the spinal
column and thus greatly improving also the immune defense
system.
What
are the benefits of chiropractic treatment?
I'd
like to use an example to explain this. A while back a woman
came to us with heart palpitations, shortness of breath,
depression and pain that reached her fingers: all of these
symptoms had started three months earlier after having lifted
a package to put it on a high shelf. Initially she went
to the emergency room at the hospital, because she thought
it was a heart attach, but she was released the next day
after the cardiologist explained to her that her problem
was caused by stress, because her heart was in perfect condition.
After having examined her we diagnosed an angina from thoracic
sublaxation, which can occur when a heavy object is lifted
above head level.
